1) Purpose of this Policy

This Data Usage Policy explains what data we use, how and why we use it, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and what controls you have. Read this together with our Privacy Policy and Terms of Use. If anything here conflicts with the Privacy Policy, the Privacy Policy prevails.

2) What data we use

We use the following categories of data when you interact with Atma Vani:

Interaction data: Your text prompts, voice recordings, and transcriptions created when you tap Start Voice or type in chat.
Generated outputs: AI-generated answers, summaries, action buttons used (e.g., Search / New Chat / Stop Voice), language preference (English/Hindi).
Technical & usage data: Device/browser type, OS, approximate location from IP (city/region), timestamps, pages/screens viewed, feature usage events, performance/error logs, referral source, and cache/route data from our host (LiteSpeed/Hostinger).
Account & support (if provided): Name, email/phone, settings, and any messages or attachments sent to support.
Partner/service data (future-ready): If you opt to use partner services (e.g., pooja bookings, yatra), we process what’s needed to fulfill that request; partners may receive limited data per your action.

We do not intentionally collect sensitive identifiers (e.g., full payment card numbers—payments, if/when introduced, are handled by processors). See our Privacy Policy for full details.

3) Why we use your data (purposes)

We use data to:

Provide the service: process your prompts/voice, produce responses, remember language and session context.
Keep the service reliable and safe: detect abuse, spam, misuse, and troubleshoot bugs.
Improve quality: evaluate accuracy, reduce hallucinations, tune prompts, and enhance Hindi/English voice.
Develop new features: e.g., Atma Marg, Atma Sadhana, Atma Samvad, Vyakhya Vani, Vani Adhyayan, Panchang Vani, Astro Vani, Bhajan Vani, Vani Satsang.
Communicate with you: service notices, product updates (if you opt in), support responses.
Compliance: meet legal and contractual obligations.

Important: training & evaluation of AI models

To improve Atma Vani, we may use your text inputs, voice recordings, and transcriptions to train, evaluate, and validate our AI systems, including via trusted service providers (speech-to-text/text-to-speech and LLM infrastructure). We apply safeguards such as pseudonymization, filtering/redaction, access controls, and aggregation. Where required by law, we rely on your consent for this purpose; otherwise, we rely on legitimate interests in improving the Services.

Opt-out from future training: You can request that your identifiable data not be used for future model training. Email: privacy@atmavani.life (see §10). Note: we may retain limited data as required by law, security, or service integrity.

4) How data flows (high-level)

You speak/type →
Browser/device captures audio (with your permission) and sends text/audio to our backend and/or trusted AI/speech vendors →
Vendors transcribe/compute and return text/audio →
Atma Vani composes a response and logs basic events/errors for reliability →
Quality process (sampled) may review anonymized snippets to evaluate safety and accuracy.

5) Sharing & recipients

We do not sell personal information. We may share with:

Processors (under contract): hosting/CDN/security, AI model APIs, speech vendors, analytics/error logging, customer support tools.
Affiliates/brands within our ecosystem (e.g., Sanatani.life, Pujaitems.co.in, YatraVeda.life) to surface relevant experiences; no payment data sharing.
Partners you choose to use (e.g., temples/travel)—shared minimally to fulfill your request and governed by partner policies.
Legal/Compliance when required by law or to protect rights and safety.
Business transfers (e.g., funding, merger); your data may transfer under the same commitments.

6) Legal bases (where applicable)

Contract (to deliver the service you requested),
Legitimate interests (improve features, security),
Consent (e.g., microphone access; model training where required),
Legal obligation (compliance, record-keeping).

7) Retention

Prompts/outputs/voice: kept as long as necessary for service provision, quality review, and model improvement (if applicable) and as needed for legal/security.
Logs/analytics: typically short to medium retention (weeks to months) for reliability and abuse prevention.
Account/support: for the life of the account and for a reasonable period after closure, subject to legal holds.

We minimize and review retention periodically.

8) Security

We use organizational and technical measures: encryption in transit, role-based access, environment separation, logging/monitoring, and periodic reviews. No system is 100% secure—please keep your devices updated and credentials private.

9) International transfers

Data may be processed in countries outside your own. We implement appropriate safeguards (e.g., Standard Contractual Clauses) and limit access to authorized personnel/providers.

10) Your controls & choices

Microphone and cookies: You can manage permissions and cookie preferences in your browser (some features may not work without them).
Training exclusion: Email privacy@atmavani.life to request exclusion of your identifiable data from future training workflows.
Access/Correction/Deletion: See your rights in the Privacy Policy (GDPR/DPDP/CCPA where applicable).
Opt-out of non-essential cookies/analytics: Use the banner or your browser settings.

11) Children

The service is intended for users 13+ (or local equivalent). We do not knowingly collect data from children under the applicable minimum age.

12) Changes

We may update this Policy. We’ll post updates here with a new Last updated date and, where appropriate, show an in-product notice.
