Cookies Policy

Last updated: October 23, 2025

This Cookies Policy explains how Atma Vani (“Atma Vani”, “we”, “us”, “our”) uses cookies and similar technologies on atmavani.life and related experiences (the “Services”). It should be read together with our Privacy Policy and Terms of Use.

By continuing to browse or by clicking “Accept” on our cookie banner, you agree to the use of cookies as described here. You can withdraw or change your consent at any time (see Manage your choices).

1) What are cookies and similar technologies?

  • Cookies are small text files that a website places on your device to store information.
  • LocalStorage / SessionStorage are browser storage mechanisms used by web apps to keep settings or temporary state.
  • Pixels / tags are tiny code snippets that help measure usage, conversions, and errors.
  • SDKs are libraries used in apps for analytics, performance, or features.

2) Why we use them (purposes)

We use cookies and similar tech to:

  1. Essential operation – sign-in (if available), session continuity, page routing, security, load balancing.
  2. Preferences – language (English/Hindi), voice settings, UI state (e.g., “Start/Stop voice” comfort settings).
  3. Performance & analytics – understand usage, fix bugs, improve speed and content relevance.
  4. Features – enable voice input/output, audio playback, and search/new chat behavior.
  5. Marketing/communications (limited today) – basic reach and product updates; we do not currently run behavioral ads. If we add ads later, we will update this page and the consent banner.

3) Types of cookies we set

  • Strictly necessary (essential) – required for the site to function (e.g., session ID, routing, CSRF/security, LiteSpeed caching keys). These cannot be switched off from our banner but you can block them in your browser (the site may then not work).
  • Preferences (functional) – remember language, voice, and UI choices.
  • Analytics (performance) – measure traffic and features to improve reliability and speed (e.g., page timings, error codes).
  • (Optional) Marketing – only if/when we introduce campaigns or run A/B tests.

Note: On mobile browsers, some voice features rely on permissions rather than cookies; denying mic permission may limit functionality.

4) Examples of data points stored

  • Language & voice: av_lang (en/hi), av_voice_rate, av_voice_enabled
  • UI state: av_tip_seen, av_consent_seen
  • Session/Essentials: session key, routing or cache tokens used by our host (e.g., LiteSpeed)
  • Analytics (aggregate): page views, feature usage counts (start/stop voice), error events (no personal audio content stored in analytics logs)

(Names may change as we iterate; the purposes remain the same.)

5) Third-party cookies / services we may use

Depending on rollout, we may use one or more of the following. Each provider may place its own cookies or collect technical events:

  • Hosting / Performance: Hostinger / LiteSpeed (caching, load balancing).
  • Analytics: privacy-respecting analytics (or Google Analytics 4, if enabled) for aggregated usage metrics.
  • AI / Speech Vendors: OpenAI (LLM), speech-to-text and text-to-speech vendors to enable voice (cookies are uncommon; they may collect technical telemetry).
  • Error monitoring / Logs: server or client-side logs for diagnosing issues.
  • Payment processors (future): to handle subscriptions or one-time purchases.

We do not sell personal data. See our Privacy Policy for details on sharing and safeguards.

6) How long cookies last

  • Session cookies expire when you close your browser.
  • Persistent cookies stay until they expire or you delete them (typically 1 day to 12 months, depending on purpose).
We try to use the shortest practical durations, especially for analytics and preferences.

7) Your choices — manage or withdraw consent

  • Cookie banner / preferences center: Use the banner link “Manage cookies” (or “Cookie settings”) to review and change your choices any time.
  • Browser controls: You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings. Popular guides: Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge.
  • Do Not Track (DNT): Many browsers offer DNT signals; while there is no industry standard, we aim to minimize tracking and honor your consent choices.
  • Private/Incognito mode: Limits persistence of storage and cookies.

Blocking essential cookies may break parts of the site (e.g., login sessions, voice features, or page routing).

8) Regional notes

  • EU/UK (GDPR/ePrivacy): We only set non-essential cookies after consent. You can change consent at any time via the banner link.
  • California (CCPA/CPRA): We do not sell personal information. You may exercise your rights as described in our Privacy Policy.
  • India (DPDP): We use a consent-based approach for non-essential cookies and keep data minimization in mind.

9) Updates to this Policy

We may update this Policy to reflect changes in technology, services, or law. We will post the new version here with a revised “Last updated” date. Material changes may be communicated via the banner or in-product notices.
